The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach is the most effective way to address rats, ensuring underlying issues are resolved and treatment methods are optimized. When using rodenticides, applying IPM principles can significantly enhance effectiveness.*
Here are essential strategies using three key tools from VM Products®: EZ Secured®, EZ Klean®, and EZ Snap Seeker®.
Sanitation
Reducing food sources forces rats to seek alternatives. Cleaning up habitats, like trimming vegetation where Norway rats burrow, exposes them and removes food sources, driving them toward stations.
Exclusion
Rats exploit openings in residential and commercial structures for food and shelter. Prioritizing repairs on active entry points helps determine where to place stations. Adding stations near these areas provides rats with an accessible food source, reducing the number entering. Inside, sealing off infested areas, such as garages, isolates the problem, directing rats to stations while preventing spread to other spaces.
Monitoring
Tracking bait station consumption reveals activity trends, offering early warnings. For example, increased feeding on one side of a warehouse signals rising activity, allowing targeted inspections, sanitation adjustments, and placement of additional bait stations to mitigate the issue.
While no single method can completely eliminate a rat problem, combining sanitation, exclusion, and monitoring with key tools from VM Products® significantly reduces populations.
